Your Vision. Your Future.

Is your child having a hard time seeing the board in class?

Do you struggle to read fine-print in books and menus?

Regular comprehensive eye exams involve a series of tests that enable your Escarpment Village eye doctor to check your eye health and vision. This type of eye exam can only be performed by an eye doctor, and shouldn’t be confused with the vision screenings given in schools or other non-professional settings.

Having regular comprehensive eye exams is crucial when it comes to protecting your eyes from sight-threatening diseases, and ensuring that your optical prescription is up-to-date.

A comprehensive eye exam can also reveal signs of a general health condition like diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol.

Why Is It Important to Get Your Eyes Tested Regularly?

Eye Exam Asian Man Rubs Eye

Comprehensive eye exams are an important part of maintaining great vision and eye health for the entire family.

During your eye exam, your eye doctor will check for any refractive errors or visual skill deficiencies that may hinder development or learning, and diagnose, manage, and treat eye diseases and conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration that can cause severe vision loss in adults.

Many of these sight-robbing conditions show little to no symptoms until they’ve already caused learning difficulties, significant damage to the eye, and/or irreversible vision loss. Routine eye exams ensure early diagnosis and treatment of these and other conditions.

What to Expect From Your Eye Exam

  • Glasses/contact lens prescription updates

We'll provide you with an updated prescription so that you can see clearly. Some people require a new prescription every year, whereas others only need a new prescription every 2-3 years.

  • Evaluating your child’s vision for learning

Conditions such as strabismus and amblyopia, and visual skill deficiencies such as convergence insufficiency can negatively impact your child’s learning.

  • Diagnosis & treatment of eye diseases

Eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy may show no symptoms until it’s too late. The earlier the treatment, the more effective the outcome.

  • Rule out signs of systemic diseases

Common systemic diseases such as diabetes and stroke can first be detected in the eyes as part of a comprehensive eye exam.

Excellent Experience with Dr. Trinidad! I visited Dr. Trinidad for an issue I was experiencing with... my eye, and I couldn't be happier with the level of care I received. Dr. Trinidad was exceptional in every aspect of my visit. He patiently listened to all my concerns and questions, and his thorough explanations immediately put me at ease. What impressed me the most was his willingness to walk me through the issues I was facing with my eye, ensuring I understood everything clearly. Not only did he address my current problem, but he also took the time to discuss preventative measures, which I found incredibly valuable. Overall, my experience with Dr. Trinidad was excellent. His professionalism, expertise, and genuine concern for his patients' well-being truly set him apart. I highly recommend Dr. Trinidad to anyone in need of exceptional eye care. Thank you, Dr. Trinidad, for your outstanding service!

The visit was as good as an eye exam could be. The optometrist, Dr. Parisa Lamei was great in that s... he took a lot of time explaining what she was seeing in her exam of my eyes and symptoms. She even took time to sit with me after imaging and describe in detail what the images where telling her about my vision.

EyeTech on Slaughter has really helpful front desk staff, and the techs and the doctors are top notc... h, informative, efficient, and friendly. I consider their business a lucky find, as they take good care of my family's eye health needs. Highly recommend!

As someone who's worked for an optometry office before, I can definitely say that Eye Tech is a very... well run and organized eye doctor office. All staff are well trained and professional. Dr. L is gentle, perceptive, concise and communicates very clearly. She's no frills and is not like a used car salesperson who is constantly trying to upsell you or schmooze you. All equipment is up to date (no unpleasant air blowing eye pressure measuring device and a very user friendly optomap retinal imaging). I was seen on time without much of a wait and the appointment was quick and painless. My contacts came in 2 business days and the office staff were extremely knowledgeable about rebates. Prices were typical/fair and are what one should expect to pay for a quality eye exam. Also, I noticed that they use Essilor brand lenses for your glasses, which is one of the best, most high quality, long lasting lenses that you can get. (Not all opticals carry this lens brand and go for cheaper brands that have coatings that wear away after a couple years or scratch easily.) If you're going to complain about prices, then go to Walmart or Costco for your exam and glasses. There is a reason why things are priced a certain way, and you get what you pay for.

Marvelous Optometrist office. I took my grandson here a few months ago, he wanted to try contact le... nses. After a quick check, they let me know that the weakest lenses would be too strong for his eyes. Nor did they charge me for the visit. I went this week for my own annual check up. They gave me a very thorough, excellent exam. The best part was that they have a machine that takes a picture of my retina. It cost $39 extra but was worth it because I didn't have to get my eyes dilated, which I hate (and which leaves me not able to do anything for a couple of hours). I had a slight change in my contact lens prescription. I'm going to wear the sample pair they gave me for a few days to make sure I'm happy, then I can order some lenses. They took their time with me, explaining everything as we went along. I'm very pleased and will be using Eye Tech from now on.

Best Optometrist Office ever! I moved out of Austin but I make the trip to Eye Tech because they are... so awesome and give great care. I made the mistake of going to a department store eye doc in my small town for the convenience and I am still regretting it a year later. High tech equipment, expertise, and they take the time to make sure you get all the rebates off your contacts for each sample you try. Can't recommend them enough!

The staff here is great. I've been going here pretty much as long as they've been in business. Dr La... mei and her staff seem to care about each and every person who comes in

My whole family has been seeing Dr. Lamei for over 5 years, and have been very happy with the servic... e. She's been great with my son who started seeing her at first with me. She's always been patient with him on dilation drops, which he hated (they now have a machine making the drops unnecessary, to his excitement). A few years ago, he wanted to try contact lenses, and he tech worked with him for 20 minutes on trying some out. Although he chose to stick with glasses for now, it's great knowing that they'll work with him any time. I've only had 1 unsatisfactory experience with her office, and she was very apologetic for it. No one's perfect, but Dr. Lamei, Ruby and the staff are as close as I've found with an eye doctor.

Comprehensive Eye Exams FAQs

Is a comprehensive eye exam the same as a vision screening?

No. Vision screenings like the one performed for children in school or at optical-only stores only check for 20/20 vision. They do not check for the presence of sight-threatening eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or cataracts. They also do not check for visual skill deficiencies such as problems with visual tracking or processing. Comprehensive eye exams are more thorough and use advanced equipment to evaluate your vision and eye health.

How often should I get an eye exam?

Eye doctors usually recommend that you come in for a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. This ensures that your glasses or contact lens prescription stays up to date and that signs and symptoms of developing eye conditions are caught early before they cause lasting damage.

When should I bring my child in for their first comprehensive eye exam?

A child’s first eye exam should take place at age 6 months. It’s important not to delay eye exams for young infants and children as some early eye problems can affect vision for life. Detecting vision problems early can keep a minor issue from becoming something serious (and more challenging to treat).
